metameme marketing - Weymouth and Portlands Events Calender

To Market' at Weymouth Farmers Market, Westham Bridge at 12-15 -12.45 this Sunday 9th May.

A befuddled bundle of strange and wonderful characters arrive in the Market Place; mad hatters, a Tall Man and The Boiled Sweetie Sisters charm audiences with their special jokes and tricks. Experience one-a-penny tunes, luminous socks, giant pants, fat pigs, plum cake, jiggerty jig, jiggerty jake...
Satellite Arts will be performing 'To Market' at Weymouth Farmers Market, Westham Bridge at 12-15 -12.45 this Sunday 9th May.
'To Market' involves a group of up 7 young performers, working with artists Sarah Butterworth, Sarah Leithead, Wendy Petitdemange and Sally Watkins. We have been involved in research visits to markets in Bridport and Bristol, and have developed walkabout characters based on objects for sale in the market place, wearing larger-than-life costumes.
We would love you to come and support us, and the market stalls themselves. It would also be great to have your thoughts on the work, and street theatre in market places and town centres. The project is being evaluated by Ros Fry from Westmead Creatives, and she will be collecting audience responses then and there.

Ancient meme theory - sun tan perceived as healthy is a meme 42000 years old?

Just thinking about sun tans whilst sitting in the sun at Newtons Cove. Almost everyone seems to feel it makes someone look inherently healthier, even people who should know better. I wondered whether this common perception (please fill out the survey by the way, I could be wrong...) was purely down to fashion memes and class memes via nurture or perhaps is down partially to a heritable meme.

I figured having a healthy tan indicated originally health and vigour... You were out hunting/farming/fishing/relaxing, not lavishing in your cave? Just a theory. Obviously these perceptions have had a lot longer to ingrain themselves then petty fears of cancer etc.

So what do you think? Please fill out the poll in the side bar... I'll follow up with pie charts and everything....

The ROWE Paradigm

A very interesting article from Ode about results-only work environments and the importance of autonomy for our well being. I've never fitted well into the traditional workplace and a nightmare to manage, this article explains why...

"A sense of autonomy has a powerful effect on individual performance and attitude. According to a cluster of recent behavioral science studies, autonomous motivation promotes greater conceptual understanding, better grades, enhanced persistence at school and, in sporting activities, higher productivity, less burnout and greater psychological well-being."(more)
