Ancient meme theory - sun tan perceived as healthy is a meme 42000 years old?

Just thinking about sun tans whilst sitting in the sun at Newtons Cove. Almost everyone seems to feel it makes someone look inherently healthier, even people who should know better. I wondered whether this common perception (please fill out the survey by the way, I could be wrong...) was purely down to fashion memes and class memes via nurture or perhaps is down partially to a heritable meme.

I figured having a healthy tan indicated originally health and vigour... You were out hunting/farming/fishing/relaxing, not lavishing in your cave? Just a theory. Obviously these perceptions have had a lot longer to ingrain themselves then petty fears of cancer etc.

So what do you think? Please fill out the poll in the side bar... I'll follow up with pie charts and everything....
